As part of an ongoing commitment to enhance the University of Akron campus environment, UAkronPark is excited to announce the commencement of the Shrank Hall South/Exchange Street Parking Deck demolition project. The deck, which has been closed since August 1, 2023, will be repurposed into a vibrant green space for the campus community.

Beginning Thursday, January 11, contractors will begin fencing off the area, marking the initial phase of the demolition process. While it will be narrowed to accommodate construction activities, we have prioritized maintaining two-way traffic throughout most of the project. This includes ensuring that buses and other large vehicles can navigate the area safely. As part of this project, vehicles currently parked on Carroll Street (primarily daily commuters and some departmental vehicles) will be required relocate to alternate locations to facilitate the smooth progress of the work. Those parked on Carroll Street must relocate before construction begins this Thursday.

This project is a significant step towards UAkronPark’s vision of creating a more sustainable and community-focused campus environment.
